what is urbancoolab?

Urbancoolab was founded in 2016, an AI lab dedicated to the exploration and evolution of creative computation. Rooted in genetic algorithms and generative media, the lab has pushed the creative singularity alongside the explosive advancements in machine learning to grow into the now thriving space of generative AI. We are a team of visionaries, self-expressionists, revolutionaries, and machine learning obsessors. We want to put the power of design, creativity, and AI into everyone’s hands.

As a generative AI lab our knowledge is focused on the discernment and generation of visually coherent design across multimedia realms; images, text, design, and related art forms applied to any surface throughout most channels (2D/3D/AR/VR/XR). Our goal lies in enhancing neural visual grammar and creative heuristics used in multimodal LLMs, creating output that goes beyond the standard NLP concourse to transform plain text and image data regurgitation into uniquely synthesized creativity. The heart of our system lies in our Design Engine, a modular cross-operation orchestrator that allows us to combine the strength of multiple generative AI projects into a synthetic designer process. Our expertise spans beyond the space of pure technical knowledge, with deep domain knowledge in the creative space as well from fashion, architecture, graphics to fine arts, allowing our systems to leverage the fullness of computational and creative strengths – combining machine efficiency and human ingenuity to induce evolving machine creativity and maximized human productivity.

Creativity and design are the great challenges for machine intelligence. There is strong evidence showing machines can outperform humans in vast areas of endeavour: face/object recognition, ping pong, image synthesis, language translation, and driving, and so on. But when it comes to creativity and design, there is a lot of progress made using machines to deviate from the commonly established style norms and generate derivative art form. There is still some way to go.
